Using The Online Store

We've revised our shopping system to work more like other internet shopping sites, so if you have some experience with online shopping, it should be very familiar to you. If you are new to online shopping, the information below will help you place your first order.

Enter the store

If you aren't already there, go to the Online Store by clicking the Click To Shop button on the home page. This will take you to the main page of our Online Store - the storefront page. Here is where we feature specials, unique one-time offers, and other product updates. It's also where you'll find the Quick Search form (upper left or right of screen) and the Category Browser that you'll use to query our product database.

To use Quick Search, just enter a word or phrase describing the product and then click on the Go button to see the results. You may also find an item by its part number in exactly the same way -- simply enter the number instead of a keyword and Quick Search will attempt to locate the item.

If you cannot locate an item with quick search, then you can browse by Category to find it. Do this by clicking on any of the titles in the Browse Products section of the storefront page to see a complete listing of products in that category.

Make your selections

The Search Results listing will display the items that match your specification. And now it's time to make a selection... Select one or more items for ordering by entering the quantity and then click any of the Buy buttons to add them all to your shopping cart. If you need more information about an item before purchasing it, click on it's picture or name to display the Product Detail screen. This screen will display a larger image of the product and complete information for it.

The Shopping Cart

The shopping cart contains all of the items you've selected for purchasing along with their prices and sub-totals. You can make changes to your selections from here by editing quantities or deleting items. Delete an item by setting the quantity to zero. Remember to always click the Update Subtotals button after altering your shopping cart to update it, otherwise your changes will not be recorded. From the shopping cart page, you can now go back and shop for more items, or you can move on to the checkout section.

Checking out

The checkout section is the last stop to make before sending off your order. Here, you'll tell us where to send your order, how you would like us to ship it, and how you intend to pay for it. The checkout section is completed in three easy steps:

The first step is to give us your billing and shipping information. We'll use this information to determine the shipping services that are available to your area and the corresponding charges. Please provide enough information to deliver your package. In particular, we will require your e-mail address to send you an order confirmation and to contact you if there's a problem with your order.

Upon completing the billing and shipping information section, we will calculate and display the shipping options that we offer to your destination. Select a shipping method from the list (the default selection is the most economical) and click the Continue button to proceed. United Parcel Service (UPS) and the United States Postal Service (USPS) are our carriers of choice, but if you have a different preference, then please indicate this in the Special Instructions section of the order form and we will try our best to accommodate you. The Shipping Information section of this document discusses shipping options in more detail.

The last step in checking out is to review your order and then provide a method of payment. Take a close look at your order to make sure that it is accurate. You can always return to the shopping section to modify your order by selecting View Cart, or Shop Online from the menu bar.

Use the Special Instructions area of the order form to give us any additional information that you think we'll need to know to correctly process your order.

And finally, select the type of credit card you want to use to pay for your order and enter its number, expiration date, and cardholder's name. We gladly accept VISA, MASTERCARD, and DISCOVER credit cards. And as a reminder, your entire order -- especially your credit card information -- will be encrypted the most trusted security system on the internet. See our security section for more details.

One final check... click the TRANSMIT button... and done. That's it! Your order will be processed and sent on its way usually within 24 hours.

The Advanced Search

In most instances, Quick Search will do a good job of finding what you're looking for, but there will be times where it will return too much information, regardless of how you phrase your query. In those cases you will need to do a more advanced search to zero in on your target, and there are several ways you can do it.

1. Be more specific:  If you're looking for rivets and typed the word rivets, you would probably get back a lot more than just rivets. That's because the search engine will return everything with the word rivet in it. That includes: rivet sets, rivet guns, etc. On the other hand, had you typed in the term solid rivets, or even aluminum rivets, then you would probably have more luck.

2. Use quotation marks: Place quotation marks around a search term to command the search engine to find only those instances where the words inside the quotation occurs exactly as entered. For instance, the search term air drill would return all items that have words air and drill somewhere in them, regardless of position or order. So, the result would not only include air drills, as expected, but also items such as aircraft drill bits, or even drilled fairings. Placing quotations around the term (i.e. "air drill") will return only those items that have the words air drill in them in that order.

3. Use the BEGINS WITH meta command:  Let's say you're looking for Cherrymax Rivets and typed in that term to find them. You would get the correct results, plus a few other items you probably didn't expect to see. Here's a better way: type in BEGINS WITH CHERRYMAX. This will return all items that begins with the word Cherrymax. There's also a shorthand way of doing this - just type CHERRYMAX * (note the asterisk after the word). The asterisk means "whatever." So the search engine will look for all items that start with the word Cherrymax plus "whatever" other words that may follow.

4. Use the ENDS WITH meta command: This is great for finding certain size rivets and drill bits, because most of our part numbers have the size at the end. So, if you wanted to find all of our -4-4 rivets (1/8" diameter by 1/4" long), then you would enter ENDS WITH -4-4. The shorthand version is *-4-4 and notice that the asterisk is at the beginning this time. Read this as "whatever" ends in -4-4.

5. Use the SAME AS meta command:  In this example, we are trying to find an item with a part number of 12 (that's our Spark Plug Cleaner). So, if you enter 12 and click go, you'll probably get about 600 items. That's because they all have the number 12 somewhere in their description. And BEGINS WITH or ENDS WITH won't work in this case either. But, if you enter SAME AS 12, then bingo! There it is. The shorthand is = 12 (the equal sign), and it means return only those items that are exactly the same as the search term. This is very useful when you want to find an item by part number.

Meta searches are great for narrowing the field, but remember that effective searching is a top-down process. Start with the most general search term, and if that returns too much information, then try being more specific. And finally, use the meta commands to help you refine your search.

Shipping Information

  
We can ship to anywhere in the United States and to most locations around the world. Our preferred means of shipment are United Parcel Service (UPS) and the United States Postal Service (USPS). These carriers have proven to be both reliable and cost-effective. They also offer a wide variety of services to meet your delivery needs. However, we do understand that some of you live in areas that are not yet serviced by these carriers, and for you we offer Federal Express (FEDEX) as an alternate carrier. Please indicate your desire to use one of these alternatives in the Special Instructions section of the Order Form in the checkout section.

Two Ways to get Free Shipping without any minimum purchase!

1. We offer free shipping on many of our products. Look for the "Free Shipping" icon (like the one shown here) on the detail page of the product to determine if it qualifies. Your shopping cart will also show the items that are eligible for free shipping. If all of the items in your shopping cart qualify for free shipping, then your entire order will be delivered to you at no extra cost, subject to the restrictions outlined below. If your order consists of a mixture of Free Shipping items plus others that do not qualify for free shipping, then your shipping charges will be based only on non-qualifying items, which in most cases will significantly reduce your shipping costs.
 
2. You can also obtain free shipping even if your order does not have any Free Shipping items in it. In this case, the rules are a little trickier to explain, but here's how it works: at checkout time, we will evaluate your order to determine how much it will cost to deliver it to you, based on weight and destination. If the delivery cost is less than 3% of the overall value of your order, then you'll get free shipping, again subject to the restrictions outlined below.

Our free shipping offer applies only to standard shipments within the United States (including Alaska, and Hawaii). If you choose to have your package delivered by one of our priority services, then you will be charged additional shipping. The amount of your shipping charge is based on the weight of the package, its destination, and the type of delivery service. Distributor and open account orders are not eligible for free or reduced shipping.

Motor Freight Shipments

Some of our products are either too large or too heavy to ship via UPS or by Mail and must be shipped via motor freight. These items are identified on the Product Detail screen by the shipping alert icon. Motor freight is not a standard shipping option, and we will use it only for those items which cannot be shipped by any other means. Motor freight items do not qualify for free shipping, and an alert will appear at checkout time whenever your order contains one or more of these items. Motor freight items going to international destinations will ship via Air Freight. This may take up to two weeks to deliver and may not be available to all countries. Please contact us for further details regarding international motor freight shipments.

International Orders

International customers: while placing your order is a straightforward process, getting your package delivered can sometimes be a tricky affair. We use UPS Worldwide and Mail to deliver the vast majority of our international orders. Both of these carriers have excellent reliability and we rarely have delivery problems with them -- provided they have an accurate address. So for you, it is especially important that you give us an accurate address. Please feel free to use the special instructions section of the order form to provide as much additional information as possible to ensure that our carrier will successfully deliver your package.

Another area of concern is the cost of shipping your package. For obvious reasons, we cannot extend our offer of free shipping to our international customers. Therefore, your order will always incur some shipping charges. If you do not specify otherwise, we will always ship your package by the most economical means. In all cases your package should arrive in 5 to 7 business days.

Tariffs, taxes (VAT), and import duties will also add to the cost of delivering your package. Unfortunately, we have no control over these charges -- they are imposed by the officials of your country and must be paid by everyone. Please contact your local commerce office to find out how much your country charges for these duties.

What information do we collect and what do we do with it?

It contains only a numeric ID that allows you to retrieve your shopping cart.
